Osun, Oyo Begin Election Break Friday

touchaheart Nigeria reports that the governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has proclaimed Friday a holiday.

The holiday was declared on Thursday, according to a statement from the governor’s spokeswoman, Olawale Rasheed, so that state residents may travel to their polling places on Saturday to cast their votes in the State House of Assembly election.

The governor then urged the citizens to observe the law and remain calm as they got ready for the elections.

The public holiday will make it easier for Osun State people to travel to their polling places on Saturday to cast their votes in the State House of Assembly elections, it stated in part. I beckon the people of Osun to come out and fulfill their civic duties.

You will choose the MPs I will work with in this election, so it is crucial. You must vote correctly.

Seyi Makinde, his equivalent in Oyo State, sanctioned a half-day for the state’s civil and public officials on Friday, March 17, 2023, in advance of Saturday’s election.

The step became necessary to allow people who might want to go to vote in the elections to do so, according to a circular approved by the Secretary to the State Government, Olubanwo Adeosun.

Workers are expected to stop working at noon, with only those handling vital tasks expected to stay at their duty positions, according to a statement from the governor’s chief press secretary, Taiwo Adisa.

The statement went as follows:

This approval of a half-day at work will enable public and civil officials who may desire to travel in order to fulfill their civic duties to do so.

On Friday, March 17, 2023, government offices are to close at noon, with (workers) performing critical services expected to stay at their duty stations.

The state’s public and government officials are urged to exercise their civic duties on Saturday, March 18, 2023.
