IWD2023: Favour Benson Speaks On The Theme: #EmbraceEquity

International Women’s Day (IWD), celebrated on March 8 is a worldwide celebration of women’s social, economic, cultural, and political achievements.

It also serves as a call to action to accelerate gender equality.

The theme of IWD 2023 is #EmbraceEquity, emphasizing the importance of gender equity in all aspects of society.

The day is important because it not only gives us an opportunity to reflect on how far we have come as women in society but also to acknowledge how much more we need to do to achieve true gender equality. It also allows us to recognize and appreciate the contributions of women across different fields and sectors, and to inspire and empower each other.

On the African continent, for example, we know that women are not yet economically equal to men, but when given the opportunity to participate in economic activity, they have a significant impact on their families and communities.

The Executive Director of Jashabel Touchaheart Foundation (JTAH Foundation), Favour Benson, a human rights activist for Women and Girl-child in Nigeria, speaking on the theme for 2023’s IWD said that equity is an important factor that we don’t have in the Nigerian society.

She said;

“Many women are delighted to witness today, March 8, International Women’s Day, to celebrate our women, despite the challenges faced in every part of the world.

The theme for this year’s International Women’s day, #EmbraceEquity is very important, because here in Nigeria it is hard to get equal opportunities for men and women.
No matter how tough it gets many women out there have never given up or shirked any of their responsibilities, yet women are left out of so many things.

As women, we need to remind ourselves of our importance, of the importance of equal opportunities, we are not alone and we need to stand our ground on equity.

Today we urge the government to include more women in the affairs of the country, women should be given a chance!

Any opportunity we get to be enlightened or to educate ourselves please let’s grasp it. Wherever we find ourselves, we should give our best, growth is important, get better at what you do, and most importantly, don’t neglect yourself, intentionally take care of yourself”, Mrs. Benson said in an interview with a Solin and Touchaheart reporter.

We can all challenge gender stereotypes, call out discrimination, draw attention to bias, and seek out inclusion. It is critical to understand the difference between equity and equality.

Equity isn’t just a should-have, it’s a must-have.

This year’s theme, #EmbraceEquity, is very relevant, We believe that by embracing equity, we can add value to our society.

For International Women’s Day and beyond, let’s all fully #EmbraceEquity.
