Lagos Govt To Harmonise Public, Private Schools’ Academic Calendars

Lagos Govt To Harmonise Public, Private Schools’ Academic Calendarstouchaheart Nigeria reports that the academic calendars for public and private schools in Lagos State will be standardized and harmonized, according to the Lagos State Government.

Prior to the 2023–2024 academic year, the change was planned, and it will guarantee that students receive the required minimum number of instructional days and hours.

The Director General of the Office of Education Quality Assurance, Mrs. Abiola Seriki-Ayeni, said this during a meeting with stakeholders.

Although while it can seem like a very minor point in comparison to other, more pressing problems we face in the field of education, the calendar is crucial.

Since the beginning of the current admin istration in Lagos, the OEQA has been able to work with its stakeholders to make sure that the calendar is followed, that there is a better understanding, and that, at the end of the day, everything relating to the calendar is to support things that happen within schools. This is done to make sure that kids receive the minimum amount of learning time, both in terms of hours and days, and most importantly, uniformity across the board in both public and private institutions.

The head of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education, Mr. Wahab Alawiye-King, who was present through a director in the organization, Mrs. Yetunde Kolade, urged attendees, particularly those from the private sector, to view the decision as a step in the state’s overall interest for the educational sector.
