Olubadan Congratulates Makinde On Re-election

touchaheart Nigeria reports that Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State, has been congratulated on his election to a second term by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II.

Makinde’s victory in the governor’s race on Saturday, according to the monarch, was a reward for him upholding his end of the bargain with the state’s populace.

Makinde, who ran on the PDP platform, received 563,756 votes to defeat Teslim Folarin of the APC, who received 256,685 votes, and Adebayo Adelabu of the Accord Party, who received 38,357 votes. Teslim Folarin was Makinde’s strongest opponent.

Makinde must view his reelection as a challenge to do more for the state, the Olubadan stated in a statement released by his personal assistant, Oladele Ogunsola, on Sunday.

There is always a propensity for a second-timer to become complacent since there is nothing to strive for again, at least at the state level. Nevertheless, I implore you to take the new mandate as a call to do more in terms of service delivery.

The belief that your government will continue to reap the benefits of democracy underlies the trust that the people have placed in you by electing you. I beg you to consider some of the concerns brought up by your opponents throughout the election campaigns as criticisms and take action in your innermost thoughts. Not every one of them was political spin or merely an effort to discredit you and your administration; rather, they were all highly relevant and essential to sound government.

In the newly developing era, let the state’s populace as a whole continue to be your main concern while putting less emphasis on party politics. For the state’s general growth and development, keep your arms open and accept everyone. Even though you are limited in what you can accomplish, let the people of the state continue to be proud of their choice in you by saying of you at the end of another four years that you did your best.
