Fayose Demands Apology From PDP Over Suspension

 

 

touchaheart Nigeria reports that Ayodele Fayose, the former governor of Ekiti State, has asked the Peoples Democratic Party to apologize for exiling him from the organization.

 

He called the reason for his suspension “libellous and slanderous,” intended to damage his reputation.

 

Recall that the National Working Committee of the party suspended Fayose and a few other party members for allegedly engaging in anti-party actions.

 

The party later changed its mind and issued a warning to its members to uphold the party’s charter on Thursday.

 

In a letter dated March 31 to the party’s acting national chairman, Iliya Damagum, Fayose complained that his suspension was unjustified. Fayose sent the letter through his attorney, Akinwale Kol-Taiwo.

 

“We are further informed by our client that by the letter dated 24th March 2023, the reversal of our client’s suspension from the Peoples Democratic Party, which was done without recourse to laid-out procedure/due process of law as contained in the Peoples Democratic Party constitution of the Peoples Democratic Party (as amended in 2017), was requested,” the letter said in part.

 

The Peoples Democratic Party reversed the suspension of our client by issuing a news release on March 30, 2023, via the office of the Peoples Democratic Party’s national publicity secretary, retracing its steps and implicitly accepting the letter’s contents.

 

The aforementioned libellous press release “was designed to smear and tarnish the good reputation of our client in the eyes of right-thinking members of the society, as well as to subject our client to odium, ridicule, and public opprobrium in front of his political associates and the general public.”

 

“While we do not contend that the Peoples Democratic Party reserve the power(s) to take disciplinary action against any erring member(s),” Kol-Taiwo continued, “it is much more pertinent to state that the said power(s) to take disciplinary action is not absolute, the said power(s) to take disciplinary action is limited to doctrine of fair hearing as enshrined in the Peoples Democratic Party Constitution (as amended in 2017) and the constitution of the Federal Republic of As a result, you must avoid having your disciplinary authority appear to violate someone else’s rights.

 

There is no denying that the national working committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (NWC) moved hastily and irrationally in this claimed suspension drama based on false and unjustified claims, giving our party, the Peoples Democratic Party, a weak and disorganized appearance.

 

If the PDP doesn’t apologize to Fayose within 72 hours of receiving the letter, according to Kol-Taiwo, he would file a lawsuit against the party.
