Breaking: Buhari fires Adamawa REC Ari and orders a probe and prosecution

Hudu Ari, the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Adamawa State, has been suspended indefinitely by President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to a statement from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha, the REC’s suspension would last until the Inspector-General of Police completed an investigation into the Ari’s conduct/actions during the April 15 supplementary election in Adamawa State.

“The President (Buhari) has directed the Inspector General of Police to conduct an immediate investigation and prosecution of Hudu Yunusa Ari if he is found liable,” said Willie Bassey, Director of Information in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

“Also, the President has directed an investigation by the Inspector General of Police, the Director-General of the Department of State Services, and the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps into the role of their officers in aiding and abetting Barr. Hudu Yunusa Ari’s conduct/actions, and if found culpable, appropriate disciplinary actions to be meted out to them,” the statement continued.
