Popular Adamawa cleric, Mike Ochigbo kidnapped by gunmen

Popular motivational speaker and preacher on television, reverend Mike Ochigbo, was abducted in Adamawa State by armed men.

The General Overseer of Freedom Power Chapel, Ochigbo, was ejected from his Nyibango residence in the early hours of Wednesday under threat of gunfire.

Similar to this, it has also been stated that Pastor John Moses was taken the same night.

Joseph Kuna, a local resident who asked to remain anonymous, said he learned on Wednesday that gunmen broke into the Pentecostal pastor’s home at about 2 am and took him away after firing erratically into the air.

The event is the most recent of multiple unreported kidnapping for ransom incidents in the region, which is near the Gibson Jalo Military Cantonment, which is home to the 23rd Armoured Brigade.

One incident in particular—the horrific murder of Hinjari Yoila, a well-known philanthropist and pastor of a New Generation Church—earlier this year—drew attention to the situation of the locals and the sense of insecurity in a well-known neighborhood.

The resulting official response after the death of Hinjari, saw, the setting up of a military-monitored checkpoint along that corridor by the military authorities but this from all accounts has not deterred the daredevil gunmen.

According to Joseph, he only learned of the kidnap of the televangelist this morning.

The spokesperson for Adamawa State Police Command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said operatives have been deployed to rescue those abducted.

According to him, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Afolabi Babatola, has deployed operatives of the Command drawn from the Special Rapid Response Team (SRRT), Crack Squad, and other Tactical Squads to carry out a tactical and intelligence-driven 24/7 operation on Criminal Hideouts and Black Spots to rescue the Kidnapped, Rev. Mike Ochigbo and another Pastor John Moses, who was also kidnapped by gunmen.

As of the time of filing this report, Pastor Ochigbo’s whereabouts are still unknown. His abductors have yet to also contact his family.
