Touchaheart – In a recent operation, Tantita Security Services Limited, a leading private security company in Nigeria, successfully intercepted and seized another vessel involved in crude oil theft in Bayelsa State.

This is the latest in a series of actions taken by Tantita to combat the menace of oil bunkering and pipeline vandalism in the Niger Delta region.

The Vessel: MT Harbour Spirit

The vessel in question is MT Harbour Spirit, a tanker with a gross tonnage of 1,999 and a deadweight of 3,300.

It has an International Maritime Organization (IMO) number of 8226272 and a flag of convenience from Panama.

The operation that led to the arrest of the vessel was a joint effort between Tantita Security Services Limited and other security agencies, including the Nigerian Navy, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR).

The operation was carried out on Monday, February 5, 2024, at about 10:00 am.

According to a statement by Tantita Security Services Limited, the vessel was spotted by a patrol boat near the Brass River in Bayelsa State, carrying an unspecified quantity of crude oil suspected to have been stolen from the pipelines.

The patrol boat then alerted the Tantita facility in Oporoza, where a team of operatives was dispatched to intercept and board the vessel.

The team found that the vessel had no valid documents or permits to operate in Nigerian waters or to transport crude oil.

The vessel was then escorted to the Tantita facility in Oporoza, where it is currently anchored and under investigation.

The Implication: A Blow to Oil Thieves

The arrest of the vessel is a significant blow to the oil thieves and their sponsors, who have been causing huge losses to the Nigerian economy and the environment.

According to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Nigeria loses about 200,000 barrels of crude oil per day to oil theft, amounting to about $5.4 billion annually.

Oil theft also leads to pipeline damage, oil spills, gas flaring, and environmental degradation.

Tantita Security Services Limited has been at the forefront of fighting oil theft and other criminal activities in the Niger Delta region, in partnership with the government and other stakeholders.

The company has a state-of-the-art facility in Oporoza, which serves as a base for its operations and a detention center for arrested vessels and suspects.

The company also has a fleet of patrol boats, helicopters, drones, and trained personnel to carry out its mandate.

Tantita Security Services Limited has vowed to continue its efforts to secure the Nigerian oil and gas industry and to protect the national interest and the environment.

The company has also called on the public to support its operations and to report any suspicious activities in the waterways.

The Conclusion: More Details to Follow

As the investigation into the vessel and its crew continues, more details are expected to be revealed in the coming days.

Tantita Security Services Limited has promised to keep the public informed of the outcome of the investigation and the prosecution of the culprits.

The company has also assured the public of its commitment to uphold the rule of law and to deliver quality security services to its clients and the nation.
