Lagos Lifts Suspension On Road Transport Union

Touchaheart Nigeria reports that the Lagos State Government has officially lifted the ban on the operations of the Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) within the state. The announcement came from Hon. Sola Giwa, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, on Monday, Feb. 19. This decision, as revealed by Giwa, was reached after a thorough evaluation and extensive consultations with key stakeholders, including members of the RTEAN, the Trade Union Congress (TUC), and the general public.

Moreover, the dissolution of the Lagos State Parks and Garages Administrators’ Committee, responsible for overseeing park and garage facilities in the state, has been implemented with immediate effect. This strategic move reflects the government’s commitment to fostering collaboration and addressing the concerns of relevant parties in the transport sector.

He clarified that the choice was made with the primary goal of fostering unity and harmonious coexistence, aiming to facilitate the seamless functioning of transportation services within the State. Additionally, it seeks to cultivate a more cooperative relationship between the government and the transport union, ultimately leading to enhanced services for the public.

The Special Adviser emphasized the importance of all involved parties strictly adhering to the terms and conditions outlined in the settlement for maintaining peaceful and sustainable operations in the transportation sector. He urged cooperation and collective efforts to contribute to the development of an improved transportation system, benefiting all residents of Lagos State.

It is noteworthy that the State Government had suspended the activities of RTEAN across the State in September 2022 and established a Caretaker Committee to oversee the union’s affairs.
