Iluyomade Saga: RCCG Appoints Pitan as City of David Pastor

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has appointed Pastor Kayode Pitan, former Managing Director of the Bank of Industry, as the new Senior Pastor of the City of David Parish in Lagos.

This move comes after the suspension of the former pastor, Idowu Iluyomade, who faced allegations of corruption and non-compliance with a transfer directive from the church. Pitan’s appointment marks a significant leadership change at one of RCCG’s most prominent parishes.

Pastor Pitan’s selection is attributed to his extensive experience in the corporate world, which RCCG leaders believe will be instrumental in managing the parish’s affairs and overseeing the Trinity Tower Project, a major development associated with the City of David Parish.

His appointment was not formally announced at RCCG’s national convention but has been confirmed by church insiders, effectively signaling the end of Iluyomade’s tenure at the parish.

Despite the leadership change, Iluyomade has remained silent on the situation. However, there are indications that he is uncomfortable with the decision, and it is unclear whether he will continue his service within RCCG or explore opportunities outside the church. The transition comes at a critical time for the parish, which plays a significant role within the RCCG network.

Pastor Kayode Pitan will now serve as the Pastor-in-Charge of Region 20, with the City of David as its headquarters, while Pastor Ben Akabueze has been appointed as his Assistant Pastor.

The RCCG community is closely watching this leadership shift, expecting Pitan to lead with integrity and expertise, particularly in balancing the parish’s spiritual mission with the demands of managing large-scale projects like the Trinity Tower.
