Touchaheart Nigeria– The case, originally filed in Louisiana, was transferred to Utah, where the sentence was finalized. The rapper, whose real name is Kentrell Gaulden, faced multiple charges after his arrest in 2020 during a music video shoot.
After months of legal battles and detention since his April 2021 arrest, NBA YoungBoy’s fate was sealed with the plea deal. Celebrity attorney Bradford Cohen, who represents the rapper, confirmed the 27-month sentence but indicated that YoungBoy will likely serve a shorter term due to time already spent in custody.
Cohen expects his client to be released in approximately 12 months, crediting time served. The rapper was also handed five years of probation as part of the agreement.
Cohen expressed satisfaction with the outcome, sharing his thoughts on Instagram:
“Global plea 27 months… will be out with credit time served in prob 12 months… lawyer did a nice job with resolving the matter successfully.” He had previously predicted a favorable outcome, citing weaknesses in the Utah case and complications with the federal charges.
NBA YoungBoy’s legal troubles stem from a 2020 incident in which he and 15 others were arrested during a music video shoot in Louisiana. The rapper was charged with illegal possession of a firearm as a convicted felon, leading to his indictment in 2021 for both firearm possession and having an unregistered weapon.
While the gun registration charge was dropped in March 2023, Utah authorities brought additional charges against the rapper in April for prescription drug fraud. These charges accused him of illegally obtaining promethazine with codeine from Utah pharmacies.
Further compounding his legal issues, Weber County authorities in Utah charged NBA YoungBoy with possession of a firearm by a restricted person, as well as two counts of fraudulently obtaining a prescription. In August 2023, federal authorities added another gun charge to the rapper’s list of offenses.
Despite the significant legal challenges, NBA YoungBoy’s attorney remains optimistic about his release timeline, with the plea deal marking a resolution to the long-standing case.
