    The Genius of Controlled Chaos

tHIs MiGHt coNfUsE yoU: The Visionary Sound of Bela. — A Manifesto of Creative Liberation

When Nigerian artist Marvelous Ojo Obanijesu, known professionally as Bela., the creator, titles his 10-track project tHIs MiGHt coNfUsE yoU, it isn’t a warning—it’s an invitation. This new release is a deliberate, sonic rebellion against the clean lines and neat explanations that modern culture demands.

Nine of the ten tracks of the compilation, astonishingly, was recorded with a phone microphone, transforming a perceived technical limitation into a profound artistic statement. It gives the music an immediate, raw intimacy, making the listener feel less like a passive observer and more like a privileged eavesdropper inside Bela.’s head.

The project’s trademark absence of space in titles (e.g., sacredAbomination, whyAreYouNotHere?) is the visual anchor of his philosophy: emotion and chaos are indivisible.

“It’s the way my thoughts look before they make sense. Every letter, every sound is slightly off—because so am I. But that’s what makes it human,” Bela. says.

    A Map of Contradiction

Across ten genre-bending tracks, Bela. weaves experimental Afro-fusion with alternative soul, using music to navigate the most turbulent parts of the psyche—where love, faith, and identity clash. The album is a chronicle of emotional highs and existential lows, stitched together by a rotating collective of producers, including KOLLY!, Meron Pace, and Kira.

The featured artists—Tem., Rómi, Ololade., and others—are not collaborators so much as they are alternate voices exploring the project’s central contradictions:

    • The Political and The Personal: Track 3, ‘Emergency For The Country’ (ft. J.T.R.), delivers scathing social commentary on Nigerian corruption, while the very next song, ‘go Down Low’, is a simple, playful call to dance with a loved one.

    • Heartbreak and Betrayal: Why Are You Not Here? (Track 6) narrates the deep ache of a failed elopement, where a man sold everything for his love only to be abandoned at the meeting spot.

    • The Spiritual and The Vibe: The album moves from the pure rhythmic energy of shakeAm! to the project’s spiritual anchor, deliver Us From Evil, which closes with a voicemail from Shammah Adeleke, encouraging the overworked artist to finally rest.

This is music that doesn’t just ask questions—it lives in the moral grey zones, particularly in the love song to reassurance, Sacred Abomination (ft. Ololade.), and the heartbreaking plea of One-Sided Affair (ft Jaceben).

    The Cover Art: Gravity-Defying Freedom

The visual component of tHIs MiGHt coNfUsE yoU completes the manifesto of surrender. The cover art depicts a robed figure in mid-air, freefalling through a pastel sky, yet smiling as their head spills a vibrant kaleidoscope of symbols and ideas into the clouds.

It is a striking portrait of creative liberation disguised as confusion. The figure isn’t collapsing; they are being emptied of internal restraints, falling into the limitless space of imagination.

“I’m not losing my mind,” Bela. states emphatically. “I’m freeing it. The image is how my brain looks when I stop pretending to have control.”

Bela., the creator, has long used fashion, visual storytelling, and experimental music to build a single, living language. With tHIs MiGHt coNfUsE yoU, he dares listeners to drop their defenses, inviting them not to be understood, but to be truly experienced.

The album drops on November 26, 2025, distributed by UnitedMasters.
