FG declares Wednesday and Thursday public holidays

Touchaheart—Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, have been designated as public holidays by the federal government in observance of Eid-ul-Adha.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja and signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr Magdalene Ajani.

According to the statement, the declaration reflects the Federal Government’s respect for the faith and spiritual heritage of millions of Nigerian Muslims joining the global Islamic community in observing the sacred festival.

Tunji-Ojo conveyed the Federal Government’s greetings to Muslim faithful across Nigeria and in the diaspora, describing Eid-ul-Adha as a festival of profound spiritual importance centred on sacrifice, obedience to God, and compassion toward others.

The government also urged Nigerians to use the holiday period for prayers and reflection, seeking divine guidance for the country as it continues efforts toward peace, security, and national prosperity.

“It is in the spirit of brotherhood, shared humanity, and national unity that the Federal Government wishes all Muslims a peaceful, blessed, and joyous celebration,” the statement read.
