The Queen Tells Prince Andrew That His Titles Will Be Withdrawn From Him, Leaving Him In Tears

When his military titles were withdrawn from him, Prince Andrew was said to be in tears.

According to the Sunday Mirror, the Duke of York, who can no longer be addressed as His Royal Highness ‘in any official capacity,’ is anticipated to write to his former battalions to convey his regret at having to depart.

Andrew’s remaining patronages and honorary military posts were revoked on Thursday after he lost his appeal to have the sex case against him dismissed.

The Duke of York was said to be ‘utterly devastated’ by the Queen’s decision but has accepted it was the ‘right thing to do.’

Even though he had expected it, the Prince was overcome with emotion when he received the news. He thinks he has betrayed so many people, not least his mother, during her Platinum Jubilee year,’ a top defense source said.

Andrew, who served in the navy for 21 years, is no longer Colonel of the Grenadier Guards, one of the British Army’s most senior infantry regiments, and has been obliged to relinquish his HRH style while he adjusts to life as a private person.

A source close to the duke told The Times he was taking it on the chin. ‘He is quite sanguine about it. He was mindful of the intense pressures building on the institution and recognized it was the right thing to do.’

The day after the shocking news, Prince Andrew is believed to have organized a shooting party at his Royal Lodge property near Windsor.

The news comes as the prince is claimed to have organized a shooting party for about 12 friends and family members on Friday, just one day after the monarch decided to eliminate the titles.

According to The Sun, around a dozen friends and relatives met at the mansion on Friday night before going on to shoot in adjacent Windsor Great Park as part of the Queen’s Christmas gift to Princess Eugenie.

After his longtime companion, Ghislaine Maxwell, 60, was found guilty of drug trafficking offenses in New York, the duke’s situation was believed to have grown unsustainable.

His titles will now have to be dispersed among the family’s remaining members, a procedure made more complex by Prince Harry’s decision to leave the royal family in 2020, which meant he relinquished his posts as well.

The Mirror’s defense source said: ‘Andrew is a victim of very poor decision-making. There is no way he could continue as the honorary head of distinguished military regiments.’

They added: ‘He could not be present at parades, visit units, or welcome troops home from operations because the story would always be about sex scandals and not about the regiments.’
