As he faces a US legal lawsuit for alleged sexual assault, Prince Andrew has erased all social media accounts after the Queen revoked him of his honorary military positions and HRH titles.
On Wednesday afternoon, January 19, the duke’s official Twitter page was blank, with just the words “This account does not exist.” His Instagram page is now private, but his Facebook page is still open to the public.
His YouTube channel has been deactivated as well.
“The Official Twitter Account for The Duke of York,” said a bio on the Twitter page. HRH signs all of his tweets – AY.”
The prince’s new status as a private person has also been reflected on Buckingham Palace’s website.
Andrew is still included in the “Members of the Royal Family” section, but his military stations and patronages have been removed.
“In January 2022, Buckingham Palace published a statement indicating that, with The Queen’s approval and agreement, The Duke of York’s military affiliations and Royal patronages have been restored to The Queen, and The Duke would continue to not carry out public obligations,” the website says.
Andrew’s official obligations, including as attending the Trooping the Colour event and touring India on behalf of the monarch, are mentioned in the past tense under the heading “Supporting the Queen.”
“An key component of The Duke of York’s responsibility was to support The Queen’s activities as Head of State,” the website now says.
As he fades from public life, the Duke of York will no longer use the title of His Royal Highness in any official capacity.
Virginia Giuffre, his alleged victim, is suing the duke in the United States for allegedly sexually assaulting her while she was a teenager.
She claims she was forced to have sex with Andrew while she was 17 and a child under US law by the duke’s acquaintance, convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. The charges are categorically denied by the Duke of York.
