ASUU Takes Decision On Court Order To Call Off Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced that it will appeal the National Industrial Court of Nigeria‘s (NICN) decision ordering its members to end the seven-month ASUU strike.

According to this online news source, Dr. Kasim Umar, the head of the ASUU chapter at the University of Abuja, announced the union’s decision in response to the court’s judgment in Nigeria’s capital Abuja.

The national executive council of ASUU will meet today to finalize the details of the appeal procedure, according to the head of the organization’s University of Abuja chapter.

Touchaheart Nigeria says that Prof. Ahmed Modibbo Mohammed, the pro-chancellor of the University of Abuja, has counseled the federal government to exercise prudence in handling the union conflict.

The ongoing conflict between ASUU and the government, in Modibbo’s opinion, cannot be resolved by the aforementioned court judgment.

In response to the court’s decision, Professor Modibbo stated that using force was not a solution and urged both the government and ASUU to engage in talks to end the strike.

The Pro-Chancellor of the University of Abuja emphasized that rather than simply issuing a fiat order, communication continues to be the best way to address the situation.
