Sia Was Suicidal And Went To Rehab, See Why

    Sia

Sia has revealed that she considered suicide as a result of the harsh criticism her film ‘Music’ received.

After the film’s premiere, the singer acknowledged to The New York Times that she “was suicidal, relapsed, and went to treatment.”

Sia made her directorial debut with ‘Music,’ and when it was released, she was chastised for casting dancer Maddie Ziegler as an autistic teen.

Many people thought Ziegler, who is neurotypical (non-autistic) and has no acting experience, was a strange choice when there are neuroatypical (autistic) actresses available.

Sia was accused of being “ableist” and “contributing to autistic people’s negative preconceptions.”

Sia was chastised not only for the film’s depiction of autism in general, but especially for its depiction of restrictions.

Sia, 46, praised Kathy Griffin, 61, with helping her recover from the criticism when speaking to The New York Times for a piece on her.

Sia told the newspaper: “She saved my life.”

Following the backlash from the release of her film, Sia stated that the comedian had persuaded her to dine at a Hollywood restaurant.

The paparazzi captured the smart outing, which helped Sia generate positive attention.

Despite the negative reviews, the film got two Golden Globe nominations.

“Music in no way condones or supports the use of constraint on autistic individuals,” Sia stated, adding that a disclaimer would be placed in front of the video.

“There are autistic occupational therapists who specialize in sensory processing who can explain safe techniques to deliver proprioceptive, deep-pressure input to help with meltdown safety,” she continued.

Sia made it clear that the endeavor was a labor of passion for her.

Sia told 10 News First, “The character is absolutely based on my neuro-atypical pal.” “Being nonverbal was too stressful for him, and I made this film out of love for him and his mother.”
