    Okorocha: President Buhari Has Agreed To Take Up My EFCC Issue

    President Muhammadu Buhari has vowed to look into the criminal accusations leveled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, according to Rochas Okorocha, a former governor of Imo state and current senator representing Imo west senatorial district (EFCC).

    The senator told State House reporters on Thursday, February 3, after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, that the EFCC has continued to harass him despite a court order prohibiting the anti-graft agency from prosecuting him.

    Okorocha further said that it is Buhari’s job to ensure that justice is provided to all citizens, revealing that he met with the President in order to get justice because the EFCC is still holding his international passport.

    He said;

    “The President said he would take up the matter, especially when he saw the judgment. He said, he will take up the matter and find out what is actually happening. And I hope he will do so. And I believe he will do that.”

    Okorocha insisted that the 17-count fraud allegation against him for allegedly embezzling N2.4 billion with the help of some individuals and corporations is “politically motivated,” and that the anti-graft agency should uphold the court decision.

    “Protecting the law of the land is one of the president’s responsibilities. And when it comes to matters of judgment, it is the responsibility of the current government to guarantee that justice is served.

    “I came to demand that justice be done, and that as the custodian, as the head of our nation, he be made aware of what is going on.” I didn’t come here to declare that I don’t want the EFCC to probe me. That isn’t the problem; the issue is that there is a decision on the ground.

    “There is a decision and an order of court that I’m asking Mr. President, who appointed the EFCC, to recollect that the EFCC was constituted by law.” And if the legislation is good enough to make someone an EFCC, it should be followed as well.”
