Wilfred Ndidi’s Place Is Taken By Innocent Bonke Versus Black Stars

Touchaheart Nigeria reports that Austin Eguavoen, the Super Eagles’ coach, has called up Lorient’s Innocent Bonke to replace injured Leicester midfielder Wilfred Ndidi in the squad for the World Cup playoff against Ghana.

After suffering a knee injury in his club’s 2-1 loss to Rennes in a Europa Conference League round of 16 match on Thursday, Ndidi was left out of the Super Eagles roster.

He did not play in the Foxes’ Premier League week 29 victory over Brentford at the King Power Stadium on Sunday.

Brendan Rodgers, the manager of Leicester City, confirmed Ndidi’s injury as his team advanced to the Conference League quarter-finals, saying that the Nigerian international could miss the remainder of the season.

As a result, he was virtually ruled out of the playoff versus Ghana, prompting the invitation of Innocent Bonke to fill the position.

Touchaheart Nigeria reports that Bonke last played for the Super Eagles in a World Cup qualifier against the Central African Republic in October 2021. He has, however, appeared in each of Lorient’s last seven Ligue 1 matches.

This information was revealed by a post from the Super Eagles’ official Twitter account, which read:

“Camp update: Innocent Bonke has been called up as replacement for injured @Ndidi25 for the #WCQ games against #Ghana. Get well quick Wilf,”

Nigeria will travel to Ghana on Friday, March 25th to face the Black Stars at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi before hosting them four days later at the MKO Abiola Stadium.
