‘It was highlighted that utterances such as these by the American President, which are unbecoming of a state person of such a high position, put Russian-American relations on the verge of a rupture,’ the Russian government stated after meeting with US Ambassador to Russia John Sullivan.
Last week, Biden described Putin as ‘a murderous dictator, a pure thug who is waging an immoral war against the people of Ukraine.’
He had earlier called Putin a ‘war criminal,’ which Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said was ‘unacceptable and inexcusable.’
The summons was an indication that the US-Russian relationship is deteriorating, as the Kremlin continues its invasion of Ukraine and the US leads western partners in tightening the economic noose around Russia in reaction.
