    Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, The Alaafin Of Oyo, Is Died At Age 83

    Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, the Alaafin of Oyo, died at the age of 83.

    According to palace authorities, the senior Yoruba monarch died in the late hours of Friday.

    According to The PUNCH, Adeyemi died at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital in Ado Ekiti.

    Prince ‘Tunde, the late Alaafin’s first son, and other children had received the monarch’s remains early Saturday morning at Idi-Igba, Oyo town.

    Traditional procedures had begun, according to palace sources, but no details regarding his funeral arrangements had been revealed.

    Before his death, Adeyemi reigned for 52 years, making him the Alaafin with the longest reign.

    According to custom, the head of the Oyomesi, Basorun of Oyo, High Chief Yusuf Ayoola, would take over until a new Alaafin was appointed.

    Before making an official statement, Basorun is anticipated to tell Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.

    The late Alaafin of Oyo came from the family’s Adeyemi branch. On October 15, 1938, he was born.

    He spent some time at Iseyin during his late childhood.

    Oba Adeyemi II, the former Alaafin of Oyo who was ousted and exiled in 1954 for sympathising with the National Council of Nigerian Citizens, was Adeyemi III’s father.

    In 1970, he succeeded Alaafin Gbadegesin Ladigbolu II, and on January 14, 1971, he was crowned.

    He was a lover of boxing.
