PSV Defeats Excelsior 6-1, Recovers From European Setback
On Sunday, PSV defeated Excelsior by a significant margin of 1-6. This helped Ruud van Nistelrooy‘s squad bounce back from their Champions League Playoff loss to Rangers (0-1). In Rotterdam, Joey Veerman scored the game’s first goal after just two minutes, and Ibrahim Sangare added two more goals in the first half. Following the break, Xavi Simons (2) and Cody Gakpo both scored goals, matching Excelsior’s Siebe Horemans’.
PSV will have to play without the injured Luuk de Jong for the next few weeks, but other players stepped up to score the goals. Sangare scored his first goal since last November, and Veerman scored his second goal of the match. After just three games, Simons has scored four goals. Particularly after the 2-0, PSV had an easy time of it since they frequently benefited from errors made by the Excelsior backline.
PSV maintains a pristine record and now has nine points, trailing Ajax by three. A game more has been played by the Amsterdammers. After winning their first two games, Excelsior has now suffered their first defeat.
