Expulsion of Nyesom Wike: PDP's Survival Strategy

In a recent interview, Obaseki, the Director of Research, Strategy and Documentation of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) 2023 Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar, made a compelling argument for the expulsion of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, from the party.

Touchaheart Nigeria reports that Obaseki believes that this move is imperative for the survival of the PDP.

Wike’s Troubling Actions Within the PDP

Obaseki’s call for Wike’s expulsion stems from a series of actions and statements made by the former Rivers State Governor.

According to Obaseki, Wike’s call for the suspension/expulsion of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, his consistent criticisms of the party, and his numerous acts of betrayal have created internal turmoil within the PDP.

    Wike’s Ambition and Its Consequences

One of the key points Obaseki emphasizes is Wike’s relentless ambition to secure the PDP’s Presidential nomination.

Obaseki asserts that Wike’s inordinate ambition has fueled the party’s internal crises, from supporting Uche Secondus for the party’s chairmanship to his defeat at the PDP Presidential primaries.

    Accusations of Anti-Party Activities

Obaseki contends that it is Wike who should be expelled from the party, citing numerous instances of alleged anti-party activities.

Prominent figures such as Bello Matawalle, Dave Umahi, and Professor Ben Ayade have left the PDP, citing Wike’s actions as a contributing factor.

The PDP’s Presidential Ticket and Zoning Controversy

Wike’s claim that he was fighting the party for flouting its own rules on zoning is dismissed by Obaseki as “cheap blackmail.”

Obaseki clarifies that the PDP had not officially zoned its Presidential ticket to the South for the 2023 elections.

He highlights the historical distribution of power within the party, pointing out that the South had received its fair share of presidential terms.

Wike’s Presidential Aspirations and Ethical Concerns

Obaseki raises ethical concerns regarding Wike’s presidential aspirations.

He questions Wike’s decision to run for the presidency when the immediate past Southern President and the last President of the PDP both hailed from the same former Rivers State.

Obaseki suggests that Wike’s actions were driven by self-interest rather than the greater good of the party and the nation.

Commitment to Reclaiming the Party’s Mandate

In closing, Obaseki reaffirms the party’s commitment to pursuing the legal battle to reclaim its stolen mandate, which is currently in the Supreme Court.

He asserts that Nigerians deserve better and vows to see the fight through to its logical conclusion.

    What You Should Know

Dr. Don Pedro Obaseki’s perspective on the expulsion of Nyesom Wike from the PDP sheds light on the internal struggles and ethical concerns within the party.

His belief that removing Wike is essential for the PDP’s survival underscores the significance of this issue in Nigerian politics.

The party’s journey to reclaim its mandate and offer a better future to Nigerians remains a central focus.
