Touchaheart News—Former Anambra State governor Peter Obi has called for remembrance of the EndSARS Lekki Toll Gate shootings on the sixth anniversary of the incident.
In a statement on Tuesday, Obi described October 20, 2020, as a painful reminder of the price Nigerian youths paid while demanding a better country.
He recalled that peaceful #EndSARS protesters were met with gunfire that night.
Lives were lost, many were injured, and the nation was left with questions about justice, accountability, and the sanctity of human life.
“We must never forget. We must never normalize injustice,” Obi said.
He reaffirmed his belief in a new Nigeria where citizens are protected rather than brutalized, young people are heard rather than silenced, and government power is exercised with responsibility and respect for human rights.
Peter Obi prayed for the souls of the departed and said their sacrifice should strengthen resolve to build a country where such a tragedy is never repeated.
“A New Nigeria is POssible. A Nigeria where every life matters,” he concluded.
