MTN Nigeria told Peoples Gazette that the data bundle was given to subscribers as compensation for the statewide outage on October 9 that left a substantial section of the company’s 77 million consumers stranded.
MTN Nigeria’s spokeswoman, Funsho Aina, acknowledged in a message to The Gazette that the data bundle was supplied as an apology for the inconvenience.
MTN Nigeria customers were unable to use phone, data, or SMS services last week owing to service failures.
Despite The Gazette’s attempts to obtain an official statement from MTN at the time, the telecommunications provider did not respond.
