George Washington’s Mount Vernon House Sells For A Record $50 Million In A Rare Listing

Touchaheart Nigeria reports that the Mount Vernon estate of the United States’ first president, George Washington, has sold for $50 million, the highest residential transaction in the D.C. region’s history.

The mansion, which sits on approximately 16 acres of land, was last purchased in 2014 for $18.6 million by Robert Stevens, the former CEO of Lockheed Martin, and his wife, Michelle Stevens.

The main mansion, dubbed the River View Estate, is 16,000 square feet in size and has seven bedrooms and 13 bathrooms, as well as 400 feet of water frontage on the Potomac River.

It also has a 2,600 square foot guest home with three bedrooms and three bathrooms.

According to the American Horticultural Society, which still holds a section of the original property, now a historic landmark and museum, it was also part of the original 1,800 acres America’s founding father purchased in 1760.

The deal was said to have concluded on Oct. 29 for $48 million, including $2 million in furnishings and personal items, according to Mansion Global.

Washington’s family owned the house until 1859, and it has only changed ownership four times since then. The mansion, which was originally listed for $60 million in September 2020, has undergone extensive modifications during the last century.

According to the listing, special features include a home gym with radius windows overlooking the Potomac, an adjacent spa space with a sauna and steam room, and an indoor resistance pool.
