Omicron Variant: UK Adds Nigeria To The list Of Countries To Be Avoided

Touchaheart Nigeria reports that Nigeria has been placed to the UK’s red list in an effort to stop Omicron Variant, a Coronavirus strain, from spreading.

On Saturday, December 4, the UK made the news.

The UK government’s travel advise on Nigeria stated, “From 0400 on Monday 6 December, Nigeria will be added to the red list for entry into England.”

All international arrivals to the UK will now be obliged to complete pre-departure COVID-19 tests, according to Sajid Javid, the Health Secretary.

Citizens and residents of the United Kingdom will be able to enter the country from Nigeria, but they will be required to pay for a 10-day quarantine.

“Nigeria is second only to South Africa for cases linked to Omicron,” Javid said.

He added that there are “27 cases already in England and that’s growing”.

Javid also said the measures are “hugely unfortunate” for people who already had travel plans, but insisted that they would be “temporary”.

“We want to remove them as soon as we possibly can,” he added, saying that “vaccines remain our first line of defence”.
