Police Officers Disregards The Order Of Sanwo-Olu, See Right

On Tuesday, January 4th, 2022, an anonymous Chief Superintendent of Police brazenly disregarded the order of Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to quit the Magodo Phase 2 Estate region of the state.

Touchaheart Nigeria reports that the CSP informed the governor that he and his armed colleagues were at the estate on orders from Usman Baba, the Inspector-General of Police, and Abubakar Malami, the Attorney-General of the Federation (SAN).

Sanwo-Olu had taken members of his cabinet to the estate’s residents to protest the presence of armed police officers.

For days, police officers surrounded the estate with suspected land squatters and members of a family who planned to demolish property on the estate to carry out a Supreme Court order. The news has caused a stir on the estate, with landlords and renters concerned about their future.

Residents then petitioned the governor to intervene, and Sanwo-Olu paid a visit to the location on Tuesday, telling the police delegation leader that the land dispute was between private individuals and the state government.

Sanwo-Olu said; “Can you call your superiors in Abuja and tell them that the governor is here and as the Chief Security Officer, you don’t have any business being in my state right now and that I want you to disengage right now?”

But the unnamed CSP replied; “I am here on the instruction of the Inspector General of Police through the AGF. I am too small or too low to call them. Your Excellency sir, you can call them sir.”

Asked of the number of policemen at the estate, the defiant leader of the police team told the governor; “My men are here; they are all over the place, I cannot precisely tell you how many we are. For security purpose, I cannot tell you the number.”

After numerous fruitless attempts, the governor became enraged and turned to press, declaring the police officers’ presence to be unconstitutional, adding that he would contact the IGP and the AGF.

A dissatisfied Sanwo-Olu said;

“They (policemen) are not from the Lagos State Police Command. They said they are from Abuja. I don’t know what other interest they have beyond keeping the peace of the country. This is not an expectation that I expect from them because they don’t have any business here.”
