Everton Manager, Rafael Benitez, Sacked After A Defeat To Norwich City

After a 2-1 defeat at Norwich on Saturday, Everton terminated manager Rafael Benitez after only six and a half months in charge.

The Toffees have only won once in the Premier League since September and are currently 15th in the table, six points above the relegation zone, after losing to lowly-ranked Norwich on January 15.

Rafael Benitez, a former manager of Liverpool (Everton’s city rivals), was appointed Everton manager last summer, but his style of play and results have failed to win over the Goodison Park fans.

Everton fans displayed a placard calling for his exit during Saturday’s 2-1 defeat against Norwich.

The same banner was flown at their 3-2 FA Cup third-round victory against Hull City.

Everton has lost nine of their last 13 Premier League games, including a 4-1 home loss to Merseyside rivals Liverpool and a 5-2 home loss to relegation-threatened Watford.

“An update on a permanent replacement will be made in due course,” Everton said

This was the club’s first away defeat against a team starting the day bottom of the Premier League table since May 2004, having been unbeaten in 17 such occasions coming into the game. Benitez had run out of time and excuses.

Before his sack, Everton had a miserable run of one win in 13 league games.
