Buhari Travels To South Korea For The First World Bio Summit
The First World Bio Summit will take place in Seoul, South Korea, and President Muhammadu Buhari will travel there on Sunday.
The two-day Summit (October 25–26), which was jointly convened by the Government of the Republic of Korea and the World Health Organization (WHO), had as its theme “The Future of Vaccine and Bio-Health.”
According to a statement by Chief Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Nigeria was chosen, along with five other African nations, at the most recent EU-African Summit in Brussels, Belgium in February of this year to serve as a Global Training Hub for the Bio-Manufacturing of Vaccines on the African Continent and transfer mRNA technology.
According to the statement, also expected to feature at the World Bio Summit are CEOs of global vaccine and Biologics companies who will share and shape ideas on the theme believing that “global health security profoundly depends on the innovation and development in the bio-industry.”
Thus, the partnership between the Republic of Korea and WHO serves to highlight not only the aforementioned historical fact but also the necessity of launching global stage-efforts on the nature of creativity and innovation required to prevent any potential future pandemic.
During his other engagements and meetings while in Seoul, President Buhari, who is scheduled to deliver a statement at the summit and meet separately with President Yoon Suk-yeol of the Republic of Korea, will also look for other opportunities for more productive partnerships that have a positive impact on the lives and safety of Nigerians.
The governors of Katsina and Niger states, Aminu Bello Masari and Abubakar Sani Bello, the ministers of foreign affairs, health, industry, trade, and investment, Geoffrey Onyeama and Adeniyi Adebayo, respectively, as well as the minister of state for petroleum resources, Timipre Sylva, are accompanying the Nigerian leader.
