Mrs. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Fidelity Bank Plc, has won the title of Banker of the Year 2022 at the Champion Newspapers’ Awards of the Year 2022.

The well-attended event, held on Friday, 12 May 2023 at the Eko Hotel and Suites, featured top players from the nation’s public and private sectors.

Mrs. Onyeali-Ikpe, who accepted her award in front of her family, friends, and colleagues, said, “I am grateful for this recognition, and I dedicate this award to the board, management, and staff of Fidelity Bank PLC, as well as my family, for their support.”

Earlier in the programme, the occasion’s Chairman and Director General of the National Council for Arts and Culture, According to Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, mediocrity will be promoted if hard work and integrity are not rewarded.

“The awardees have no doubt undergone a rigorous process of screening, careful and meticulous scrutiny to be adjudged fit, proper in all ramifications,” he added. As a result, they are deserving of these prestigious awards.”

In her opening remarks, Dr Nwadiuto Iheakanwa, Group Managing Director, Champion Newspapers, said, “There is no denying that the reward for hard work is more work, hence our humble appeal that more efforts be made to ensure that the nation realises its full potentials in all spheres of endeavour, knowing fully well that the country is among the most endowed nations of human capital.”

“One of the areas in which I intend to challenge the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor is the ease of doing business.” It is my considered opinion that if the incoming administration gets it right in institutionalising administrative structures that eliminate bottlenecks, the country will be able to expand productive capacity in a way that encourages greater foreign earnings other than oil.”

Other awardees at the event included the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Brigadier-General Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), who received the Man of the Year Award; Afenifere Leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, who received the Life Achievement Award; Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who received the Governor of the Year award; Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke

Mrs. Onyeali-Ikpe received the Banker of the Year 2022 award at the 14th Leadership Annual In January 2023, there will be a conference and awards, and the Best Banking CEO Nigeria 2023 will be recognised at the 2023 Global Banking & Finance Awards in April 2023. She was also named one of the top ten female finalists in the Africa.com Awards. The Definitive List of Female Chief Executive Officers (CEOs).
