President Tinubu Suspends Godwin Emefiele As CBN Gov.

Godwin Emefiele, the governor of the central bank, has been immediately removed from his position by President Bola Tinubu.

This was revealed in a statement released on Friday night by Willie Bassey, Director of Information for the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

He clarified that the inquiry and the proposed financial sector changes were the basis for the CBN governor’s suspension.

According to Bassey, Emefiele was instructed to immediately transfer control of his office’s affairs to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate) until the inquiry and reforms were finished.

The statement partly read, ” President Bola Tinubu has suspended the Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, from office with immediate effect

“This is sequel to the ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy.

“Emefiele has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the Central Bank Governor pending the conclusion of the investigation and the reforms.
