Patrick Vieira who will become the next manager of Ligue 1 team RC Strasbourg after he signs a three-year contract which they should conclude on Sunday.

The former Arsenal midfielder has been unemployed since March, following his dismissal from Crystal Palace.

The owners of Chelsea have recently reached an agreement to acquire a controlling interest in Strasbourg, a French club that narrowly avoided relegation by a five-point margin, finishing in 15th place in the top division last season.

Before becoming the head coach of New York City, a team that is a part of the City Football Group, Patrick Vieira was the manager of Manchester City’s Under-23 team, highlighting his prior experience working with multi-club teams.

Frederic Antonetti, the 61-year-old predecessor of Vieira, effectively guided Strasbourg away from relegation last season but amicably decided to part ways after the recent investment.

After retiring from professional football with Manchester City in 2011, Vieira embarked on his coaching journey, assuming control of the club’s elite development squad in 2013.

The Frenchman then moved to Major League Soccer (MLS) in 2015 and took over as the manager of New York City FC. Three years later, he returned to Europe and joined Nice, a Ligue 1 team. Vieira led the team to a seventh position in his debut season, yet unfortunate circumstances led to his dismissal in December 2020.

Patrick Vieira returned to the Premier League in July 2021, replacing Roy Hodgson as the manager of Crystal Palace, ten years after quitting professional football in the English top division. During his first season as manager, Vieira led the Eagles to a 12th-place finish in the league, and the team also made it to the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

Vieira’s time at Crystal Palace concluded in March, as the team faced difficulties in achieving victories throughout 2023. Their position, only three points above the relegation zone in the Premier League, led to his departure from the club, which is a regrettable outcome for him.
