Ex-Man United Goalie in ICU

Edwin van der Sar

Touchaheart Nigeria reports that Edwin van der Sar, the ex-goalkeeper of Manchester United, was hospitalized in Croatia following a cerebral hemorrhage.

The announcement was made by his former team, AFC Ajax, through a Twitter post on Friday.

“On Friday, Edwin van der Sar had bleeding around his brain. He’s currently in hospital in the intensive care unit and is in stable condition.”

“Once there is more concrete information, an update will follow.”

“Everyone at Ajax wishes Edwin a speedy recovery. We’re thinking of you,” the club wrote.

The news was released just a few weeks after the former goalie made the decision to leave his position with the Dutch team.

Van der Sar resigned from his role as Ajax’s chief executive officer in May and revealed the ‘incredibly tough period’ that led to the decision.

Before deciding to retire, the former Manchester United goalkeeper served in the role for seven years after being appointed in 2016.

The choice was made not long after the Eredivisie season, in which Ajax ended 13 points behind league champion Feyenoord.

Given their long-standing supremacy, it was hardly the season that many fans had anticipated—they ultimately lost out on Champions League football for the upcoming season.

However, the Dutch team did not fare well, and van der Sar revealed his motivations for leaving the position as he bid the club farewell.
