The "Cold War" between the heads of the NNPC and NAPIMS, Bala Wunti and Mele Kyari, continues.

Recently, some anonymous agitators have been attempting to seduce Mele Kyari, who was chosen by former President Muhammadu Buhari as the 19th GMD of NNPC in 2019, into an uneasy alliance with Wunti, who is in charge of NAPIMS.

According to sources close to the pair, neither man is either longer having a productive professional relationship. And this has an impact on how their separate organizations operate.

For a long time, certain dark elements who felt threatened by their once-burgeoning friendship had restless nights because Kyari and Wunti avoided the alluring notions of war and delusions that marked their predecessors apart.

It should come as no surprise that some cunning individuals are sincerely trying to sever their friends’ ties and push them into a vicious conflict.

Those shadowy elements are obviously disturbed by the friendship between the two; they would rather that the friendship terminate in perpetual strife, as it did with their predecessors, who put NNPC and NAPIMS in a recurring state of distruction.

The rumor that Wunti is wanting Kyari’s job and that Kyari, in turn, has been trying to have Wunti removed because he feels threatened by the NAPIMS boss’ rising profile has been propagated by the troublemakers in an effort to set them against one another.

However, it’s interesting to note that the enemies of peace have been warning the head of NAPIMS that his friend Kyari would use some material against him and use it to discredit him in front of Mr. President.

They are also propagating the rumor that Wunti is trying to get Kyari fired, alleging that he was involved in the recent call for President Tinubu to fire Kyari over claims of his involvement in the mismanagement of the NNPC and the petroleum sector.

They said that his purported involvement in the NNPC’s advocacy of the illicit allotment of oil blocks and marginal oil fields was partially funded by his estranged friend.

The plotters who want to destroy Wunti and Kyari’s friendship favor the time when the leaders of NAPIMS and NNPC were engaged in a never-ending battle of wills and animosity.

There was no love lost between the heads of the two public organizations during that time.

Despite the fact that NAPIMS is a Corporate Services Unit (CSU) inside the Exploration and Production (E&P) Directorate of NNPC, a conflict between the leaders of these crucial organizations—which are essential to Nigeria’s wealth—always sprang from something nefarious.

If the NNPC Group Managing Director was not making the Managing Director look guilty.

But under the surveillance of Wunti and Kyari, all of these became inconsequential.

The pair interacted with an unparalleled level of mutual trust and confidence, consigning all the mistrust and suspicions of the past to the trash can of history.

The shadowy forces and masterminds of shady dealings in both public parastatals are irritated by the fact that they have always been on the same page.

However, despite their best efforts, they would never be able to plant the seeds of competition and mistrust between Wunti and Kyari.

The two’s relationship has frequently been compared to a mending stem for the public service’s decaying branches.
