Oluwo: Alaafin and Soun stools: Government installs monarchs, not Ifa

THE Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdurosheed Akanbi, asserted Tuesday that since the traditional oracle’s days are long gone, the state government now appoints traditional rulers according to Ifa.

The monarch questioned why the Ifa has not yet chosen Alaafin of Oyo and Soun of Ogbomoso’s successors, stating princes with sincere intents would have to support the state administration rather than the Ifa.

The Oluwo emphasised in a statement that only princes who have chosen to ignore reality still pursue Ifa in an effort to become kings.

It reads, “God establishes monarchs, not Ifa. The government, not Ifa, will receive patronage from contestants when an empty stool needs to be filled. Ifa customers will be forced to wait forever. Why didn’t Ifa choose the new Soun of Ogbomoso and Alaafin of Oyo? Or did Ifa travel so that we could look for his return and install new kings in those towns?

Only princes who are out of touch with reality or who watch too many Nollywood films will rely on ifa to proclaim their kingship. The government will carry the voice of God. When we refer to the government as the Ifa, we are not far from reality.
